Highly clickish, political environment, not conducive to anyone's best effort

I have been working at Pew Charitable Trusts full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

-Work-life balance is great, you walk in at 9 and leave at 5:30
-Headquarters are downtown DC close to great venues for lunch

    Cons

-Pay is not competitive at all, not even for masters degrees
-Ultra conservative environment doesn't make any sense within today's modern workplace context
-Organization grew, in one year, from a bit less than 100 employees to over 700 and with it, a lot bad apples were brought by friends or former colleagues from other job which in turn, created an extremely clickish environment where seniority and "friends in management" trump anything else (in short, this place has the term "conflict of interest" written all over it)
-Benefits are not bad although, "100% paid PPO and Dental" does not precisely mean what it reads but rather, how they make it sound to get your attention
-Month long, 8 hour a day inductions
-Lots of incompetent managers who might be great at their core job but lack the minimum skills needed to manage even a team of two
-Millennials don't last more than a year at this organization, not only because of the preceding bullet point but also because, as part of Pew's ultra conservative roots, the only people with access to growth within the organization are the older generations (there are is no young management at Pew)
-In spite of being an organization with a workforce composed of mostly females (at least 70%), there are male managers who still get away with sexist/berating comments against women

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

More like, advice to the board members: Pew is in dire need of a deep scrub, lots of people with talent have left and keep on leaving and the ones who remain are the incompetent souls who keep on scaring away the good talent in the first place.

    Doesn't Recommend
    Neutral Outlook
    No opinion of CEO
