I worked at Physical Optics Corporation full-time

varied technical backgrounds strong admin enticing company benefits

the whole time i worked there lab safety was entirely neglected the lab conditions were deplorable and it is only a matter of time till someone gets seriously injured. management didn't seem to care one bit. the company is know as an SBIR mill - a company which keeps sucking up government funds without any true purpose other than to sustain itself - like a tumor. POC is probably the largest SBIR mill in terms of number of government awards. even if you are at POC for years you will probably never get close to creating a real viable product. the closest most people get is building a questionable prototype. the company wants to encourage creativity but does not like to stray too far from its funding application boilerplates filling out time sheets as instructed can be an exercise in moral judgement doing nothing but applying for funding (like many employees do) can be a career-killer if you stay too long if you want to innovate, learn about business or startups, this is not the place. you are there to write proposals so that you can buy time to write future proposals i don't think i encountered any managers with management training - some we naturally good, but most management seemed to believe that managing people meant suppressing the strengths of their subordinates so that they conform POC culture doesn't really evolve - it wants more of the same "rinse and repeat" mentality. new employees will either conform or will leave.

    Advice to Management

times have changed - change with them. the world doesn't revolve around POC. learn from C-level management of more successful companies - hiding intentions from your employees will be noticed
