I have been working at Pilot Flying J full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Pay was above average for this type of work. Fast paced.

    Cons

Hours. lots and lots of hours. As you have read with other reviews, there is no family/work balance. You are expected to be in your store for 60+ hours a week to even have a chance at running a "good" location. You are an overpaid cashier and janitor for most of your time at Pilot Flying J. Each location is run on a shoe-string labor budget which makes it impossible to live up to unreasonable expectations. Regional management and above offer NO SOLUTIONS. They will visit your store often and tear down all employees over the smallest details. Sales will not deter this. If your store is performing well in all metrics, the onslaught of negativity will continue.
If you are a seasoned manager who excels at managing a staff and getting results, this is NOT the company for you. If you are an entry level manager who wants to cut his/her teeth in a face paced industry where you spend most of your time as a cashier or CLEANING TOILETS after truckers... this is your perfect fit.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Live your motto: Driver Driven. If you truly believe in this philosophy, allow your stores to be appropriately staffed to achieve this. General Managers who spend their days ringing people out and working extra hours each day to make sure the bathrooms and lots are clean is not effective management. Allow your managers to ACTUALLY MANAGE!
