    I have been working at Polo Ralph Lauren full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

    The opportunity to travel nationally and internationally for various corporate projects if you stand out. The organization teaches you great leadership skills- actual leadership skills you'll apply when you leave the retail game. The customer in stores is also very friendly, and a pleasure to work with. In my two years I've come across a few odd customers, but never one I thought was rude or unpleasant.

    Cons

    Without a doubt, the most inefficient business in the industry. Almost impossible to manage poor performers out of the building. Talent outside the business is seen as more valuable than talent within. Countless times I've been unable to move outstanding direct reports up because executives find a fresh resume more attractive; only to have outside candidates fail miserably because of high pressures.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Streamline the process of managing poor performers out of the building, and take more value in the abilities of high performing talents within the business. Work on strategic inefficiencies costing the business millions. Benchmarking processes against competitors is the quirkiest way to highlight these issues.
