Current Employee - Barista (No-alcohol) in Laval, QC (Canada)

I have been working at Presse Café Pie IX part-time for more than a year

    Pros

It's easy to learn the barista ways; youtube is there to help if you want to make a show
Extremely flexible schedules, colleagues are also usually approachable to fix shifts between themselves

    Cons

No real training on the steam machine; every employee functions pretty much how they see fit, no real support from the managers... No credit cards, so a lot of complaints; high prices and a poorly maintained shop make for not much tips, lots of broken/insufficient working tools
parking on afternoon shifts... haha. (clubs, restaurants, centropolis nightlife..)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The amount of labour isn't equal to the salary, after a few months; consider raises, especially if your employees offer exceptional services.
Consider introducing the credit card payment method, as that would greatly better the work atmosphere for employees and customer satisfaction... It's like a vicious circle, you see? It puts the employees' morale down not to have proper tools to serve well.
Machines that need repairing... Need repairing for the same reasons: getting continually burnt while serving delicious lattes from a leaking steamer, is very...un-calming.
Fixing floor tiles that trip customers and employees alike, adding a handle to the door leading to the terrasse, actually opening up the terrasse doors for atmosphere, fixing heaters (melted shoes!) and plugs and the TVs in the shop would be beneficial, as well.
Don't hire unfit employees.. Or get rid of them when you see your entire staff swearing under their breath everytime a nonfit employee comes in. Kills service, employee mood, and breaks more plates.
