I have been working at Prompt Ambulance Service full-time (More than 5 years)
It is good for experience. Even working BLS you will get emergencies.
Sheesh where do I start? The biggest thing is management does not care. They care about their money and not their employees. You will get treated like a red headed step child. They don't care what you think. They don't care if you have something to do after work. " You cannot take the call because you have plans after work? We will show you enroute to your patient. Thanks!" I am not exaggerating either, ask anyone who has been here awhile. The pay sucks. 10 an hour starting with 35 cent raises. Try living off that. Overtime has been cut also. Dispatchers are a bunch of idiots behind a mic. They send you all over the place no matter how much time is left in your shift. As I mentioned before good luck getting out of it. They just take in way more than they can handle too. And you are the one stuck doing all the work. Funny thing is it used to be a lot worse. We tried to start a union and they realized we were fed up. Some things changed but not much.
Advice to Management
Gee a raise would be nice. How about not accepting every call you get when you are already swamped? How about thinking of your employees of something other than peasant slaves?
