    Pros

I love that most people here really care about the Mission & Core Values. The top leaders are top notch, and care about developing their staff. They care about the organization and the patients we serve. There is a lot of information about the initiatives Prov is doing if you know how to find it. A lot of people are willing to help if you ask.

    Cons

It is a big organization. There are no paid holidays (which hourly staff must take), so the PTO bank appears to be better than it is. The annual review process doesn't let staff get more than ~2.5% unless others in the department get less (and 2.5% is really inflation-proofing, not much of a merit increase). A couple of years ago everyone got a flat 1.5%. Do not expect to ever negotiate your salary once you start. I was offered a new position after many years, and when I went to negotiate was essentially told by HR a week later to "take it or leave it" and was told there were other candidates they would move on to if I didn't decide within the hour. There were no other candidates! I know others who have had a similar experience, or who have just not negotiated. A lot of line staff are comfortable doing their job the same way they always have, or according to policies that sometimes don't make sense anymore. Information about how PH&S is doing isn't communicated well, and how decisions are made is not well understood. Too many new initiatives without realistic goals make many just ignore them as the newest flavor of the week. Sometimes leaders just like talking to leaders and don't really want to involve line staff in meaningful conversations.

    Advice to Management

Managers and directors should stop trying to manage down.
