I have been working at Qualcomm (Less than a year)

Good pay. Good Benefits (although they are getting worse over time). You work with really smart people.

They just announced 15% work force reduction (layoffs). Politics, Politics, Politics. If you want to get promoted you need to learn to play the political game very early. Culturally the company is stuck in it's old ways. There was always a focus on "out executing the competition." This sounds good on paper but results in a lot of short cuts and TONS of technical debt in both HW and SW. This leads to further band-aids/hacks which just perpetuates the core issues.

    Advice to Management

Fire yourselves. Qualcomm needs to do what MSFT has done in the past. Stop all chip production and spend 6 months to 1 year cleaning up a bunch of their years of technical debt.
