Former Employee - Senior Project Manager in Mason, OH

I worked at Quest Diagnostics full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Work-life balance, offers remote working arrangements (although that appears to be changing), good employee engagement via "town hall" style all-hands meetings, competitive in the diagnostic lab marketplace (steady, no real growth but also no significant decline either.) Individual teams typically have strong working relationships which makes the day-to-day work effort rewarding. Low-level managers try to recognize achievement where possible.

    Cons

Pay and salary increases are lower than average, benefits are expensive and could be better, bonuses are almost non-existent. Very little room for advancement in most departments. Company politics often hinder progress. 2013 reorganization caused significant loss of valuable talent in the following months, with no apparent concern from management or attempts to keep good employees. Recently adopted an antiquated stack ranking system for employee evaluations and some employees are no longer permitted to work from home.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Dump stack ranking ASAP. Allow remote work where it makes sense and is successful. Consider moving or dismissing managers who insist on operating the same way they did 10 years ago. Change is great, but only when everyone is on board. Continue promoting transparency and accessibility of upper management to all levels. If lab business is going to be the primary focus, consider selling off the technology side rather than neglecting it.
