I have been working at Retail Properties of America full-time (More than a year)
Leadership has shown a serious commitment to a culture of performance by evaluating pay, bonuses, review process, benefits, and the overall company culture. They are striving to be one of the best places to work in the industry and that hard work is apparent in everything they do. Managers and leaders are committed to a collaborative work environment and look to incorporate employee feedback whenever possible.
Communication around job changes, leadership changes and workflow processes could be enhanced. It is difficult for new employees to learn "who does what." New hires do not have a uniformed on boarding process - much is left to the manager they report to so not everyone has the same experience when they join the company. However, I believe this is more a result of limited resources vs a lack of desire or need.
Advice to Management
A lot of time and energy is spent explaining why and how decisions are made to the investor community, but that level of focus could also be shared internally. While town halls are fun and lighthearted, more time could be spent talking about business goals and objectives - hearing from the executives in their own words is always better than putting it in an email or on the intranet.
