I have been working at Rocketship Education full-time

    Pros

    -Great kids
    -Good benefits
    -Hardworking & teachers and staff
    -High standards for kids
    -Pretty good results

    Cons

    -Dehumanizes students and teacher
-Administration not very open to any suggestions or feedback, and will view it as an attack on them or the culture and gets way too defensive if anything is questioned
-Lack of diversity among administration and teachers. MOST minorities are para's, lab aides or low paying staff
-Not a lot of professional development for anyone but teachers
-Not enough support for students with IEP's and need special accommodations
-bilingual education looked down open and will not consider ESL for students who barely speak any English
-The blended technology model isn't working. Kids aren't interested in the computer programs that are supposedly tailoring their lessons to their level and ability. They click on random answers to just get through their lessons. That isn't an accurate portrayal of their actual abilities which makes the "personalized lessons" ineffective and pointless.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Consider hiring someone who can foster a positive team atmosphere on your staff; your staff morale is low and the exercises that you do come off as inauthentic. Diversify your staff. If your mission is to address the achievement gap, then you need to also walk to walk and show students that race will not hinder them from being successful in their future.
