Former Employee - Production Supervisor in Baltimore, MD

I worked at Ryan Homes full-time (more than a year)

Good training, excellent company outlook, great Employee Stock Ownership Plan, low turnover, well oiled home building process which produces excellent structures. Decent opportunities to move up the chain after a few years in production, if that's what you want. Company truly believes in protecting the environment (Energy Star flagship, excellent erosion & sediment control measures).

Work load determined entirely by your job site - may be less than 40 hours a week, or you may be asked to work well over 60 hours at a job that doesn't provide overtime. Pay is average at best. Subcontractors are being squeezed by NVR and Ryan Homes using their massive purchasing power to suppress wages. Slow response rate by the logistical chain. Use of shoddy finished products (light and plumbing fixtures, for instance) lead to many complaints by homeowners.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be more willing to rotate people between job sites so workers don't get burnt out. Pay your subcontractors what they're worth and they'll actually do good work for you, rather than getting by with the bare minimum.
