    Pros

    Down to earth people. A family atmosphere, though that is being challenged by the new bean-counter mentality. Their flagship product is very well liked by their customers, and gets a loot of repeat purchases. Their Support organization is world-class, and get highest marks from Serena's customers. The CEO is fantastic - extremely bright, humane, and energetic.

    Cons

    The long-time CFO is now leading most of the company. He's certainly a competent CFO, but he sets a tone at the top of angry impatience and lack of listening to input, and that is poisoning the company top-down. 3 EVP's have left in the last 9 months (some very tenured)., and haven't been replaced. Instead their job is being double-covered by someone that in two of the three cases hasn't even done the job before. Makes sense from a bean-counting perspective, but not a good way to grow a company IMO. Not a bright future for Serena's growth in the software business, though it will doubt still be a cash cow for some time to come for it's investors due to the huge installed base of customers that keeps paying for software maintenance.
