I have been working at STATS

    Pros

You can go play basketball Friday mornings and hockey Tuesday mornings and there's a 3-on-3 basketball tournament and a soccer team - all the sports you could want. And all the fantasy pools you could want and more.

Most people are receptive to ideas as long as you make a logical, business-oriented case for what you're pushing for.

Most departments don't expect more than 40 hours a week.

Very accommodating to working whatever schedule you want.

Developers have been able to get promoted rapidly if performance is outstanding.

Somewhat low expectations, so if you try, you succeed.

    Cons

Low expectations, so not that rewarding. There are several programmers there that shouldn't have programming jobs. STATS is too slow to fire people - it results in the bad developers being frustrated with not understanding what's going on, managers being frustrated at not being able to create good quality work, and it frustrates good developers to have to work with these people.

    Pay is not competitive.

Biggest con: Management is very resistant to change. Many developers argued to apply industry best practices (unit testing, Agile/Scrum, more QA, etc.), and they were met with heavy resistance. It took new ownership to get these things through. Positive is that the new ownership seems to be in line with the developers' best interests (in terms of best practices).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to those close to the work that's being done.
Pay competitively to those who prove their abilities.
Get rid of those employees that aren't carrying their weight.

    Positive Outlook
    Approves of CEO
