I have been working at Sandia full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Sandia is an excellent place to work if you enjoy solving challenging problems and relish furthering your technical knowledge and expertise. Sandia has a great work-life balance and offers both a standard 40 hour schedule as well as a 9/80 schedule. The people you work with are very knowledgeable, and the culture is such that most individuals are more than willing to discuss your problems with you and aid you in formulating a solution.

    Cons

The manner in which performance reviews are conducted is probably the largest con to Sandia. Performance reviews are done on a 1-5 scale. According to Sandia policy, 50% of the labs must receive a 3 and 10% must receive a 2. Additionally, in many organizations, performance reviews are not at all based on "performance", but instead based on office politics and/or how well your manager likes you.

Sandia is a great place to work for Engineers and Scientists. For business, accounting, finance, etc. majors, there are significant problems in this area. The HR department is pretty poor as well.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Improve the HR department. Gain a better understanding of the different roles in the business department (e.g. an IT audit major should not be hired to do financial analyst work...and financial analyst work should not be called a "Business Management Professional" position).
