I have been working at Save-A-Lot Food Stores full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

I recently started working in the Corporate office.

Flexible hours. I have never worked for an employer that allowed you to come into work late & leave late with no penalty against you. This is something I greatly value.

Schooling. SAL offers tuition reimbursement after 1 year of employment with them. This is something I plan to take advantage of & is the main reason I accepted the position. They also have internal training programs to help you work on management skills, excel & computer skills.

I must admit, when I was looking for a new job I was sending out resumes like a crazy person because I was so desperate to get out of my previous company. SAL was the first to call me & I wasn't really excited about SAL...but the flexible hours & schooling/training programs hooked me. Plus the pay was a decent raise from what I was at before. They seem to really put their employees first. (Unless there's an ice & snow storm, then not so much from what I'm told)

    Cons

Negotiation. I have never had a company tell me that I can negotiate & didn't know what they meant. If they were referring to the sick time, pay or benefits. I have absolutely no clue! & didn't want to come off as greedy or hard to work with so I just accepted what they offered. Later I learned that I could of gotten sick & vacation time before January had I negotiated it....

The benefits really aren't impressive. They've gotten rid of a lot of things that I did not have the opportunity to enjoy. I understand back in 2012 the company was going through hard times & had to make cut backs. Among those things; 401K, Discount on Groceries, Christmas Party & Christmas Bonus. The 401K was brought back & I do have an account but it really isn't all that impressive. I learned these things after coming on with them...I would of been more hesitant to accept the position had I known these things up front.

This is going to sound stupid...but in the corporate office building if you're on the second floor you better hope you don't get motion sickness. The second floor shakes like a mini earthquake anytime anyone walks by. I mean anyone. There's nothing worse than sitting at a desk all day while the floor shakes consistently 8 hours a day & even more so your computer screen. The screen shaking all the time strains my eyes & therefore gives me a head ache. Not the best working conditions.
