    I worked at Schwan's Home Service full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

    An opportunity to dictate your own compensation at a route sales level. Gives the "owner mentality" individuals all the tools to be successful. A certain amount of autonomy exists at the manager level which could be beneficial to the self motivated.

    Cons

    Compensation at the sales management level is significantly below standard for the amount of personal time and energy investment needed to be successful as a manager. Lack of work/life balance in all field sales levels is abysmal. Internal promotability has a focus shift to external hires. It has become easier to attain management levels as an external candidate than as an internal.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    With an extended operation it makes sense to consider shift management. AM/PM leaders with 8 hour shifts and fair pay would do a better job of ensuring productivity. Each depot should have at a minimum (2) sales managers and (1) operations manager. This would also eliminate the 24/7 on duty livelihood that currently exists with sales managers
