I worked at Scientific Games full-time (More than 10 years)

If you can handle your daily duties at SG you're capable of greatness in other organizations. SG, from day one, piles work and responsibility. At no time will you receive an org chart that assists you in your search for resources. When you have successfully navigated the maze of resource responsibilities you will have arrived with a skill-set that will make you a rock star in other companies. Its as if you're a consultant without a corporate resource and no actual map of the end product but a directive to make an ambiguous object great.

The environment is very political and heavily charged. Be ready to take a stance at every level. If you're not ready to step into the bull pen to fight for what you need or the direction you feel is necessary be ready to step back and take direction from those that may not have the knowledge and experience but do have a louder voice. The environment, among other things, lacks a professional atmosphere. Corporate policies are loose and the team dynamic is aggressive. Going into the environment you need to be prepared to achieve at all costs. The org lacks internal documentation, training, policy and procedure. Be prepared for micromanagement at numerous levels. There are no departmental boundaries or organizational feedback cycles. If you've made a mistake you will hear about it from numerous individuals on numerous teams. Errors in process or procedure are readily identified - errors are seen as weakness at the individual level and not something that is addressed after an actual gap analysis. The environment lacks actual tooling to streamline request cycles and workloads. HR is visibly not working to balance the leadership/ employee relationship or push leadership for the necessary resources to better enable the employee. If you take a complaint to HR be prepared to be managed out -- all of your mistakes no matter how minute will lead to administrative action that will eventually lead to your termination. HR does aggressively fight unemployment with as many roadblocks as they can muster.

    Advice to Management

SG has been spiraling for years. Management has sat idly by while the organization fails to produce meaningful profits. The failure isn't the market but the internal struggles of the lower to middle tiers of management. There are numerous levels of management that have no real leadership skill-set. There are too many levels of management not performing for the common goal of the company, instead they are building up their organizations to create what they feel is an impressive resume. Hire an external firm that will review the org and report back directly to the board. It is well known that you need to clean house - get rid of unnecessary VPs, Senior Global Directors, Senior Directors, Directors, Managers and Team Leaders that aren't benefiting the future of the company. Streamline your operations and create formal accountability. Develop employees that want to build a great company not just ride the wave until the next RIF. Equating a 'leadership' headcount reduction to a reduction in productivity would be a mistake as several of the 'leaders' are only hindering their teams from achieving due to a desired level of political push... i.e. if your team wont perform an action for my team we will need to lower your priority and we might get to your request in a few weeks/ months/ never. I'm pretty sure that this wont reach a high enough level of management to produce a real result but hopefully it keeps those that have ambition, drive, talent and a passionate desire to work with technology from losing a portion of their soul with this life sucking low wage paying minimal time off company. After 10 years I gave up on this company and its culture improving. I am much happier, making better money and have a real work/life balance. In every location SG operates there are better opportunities that should be sought with better companies. There should be no deterrent for the unhappy masses at SG from abandoning the fruitless endeavor of laborious effort and finding something that can make you happy. As its said - people leave bad managers not companies and SG is full of failed leadership. I hope future applicants reading this will do so knowing that I'm not angry at SG - its only fair that you get a better picture of what you're stepping into. The company culture is toxic and will not be resolved quickly - if you're interviewing ask at all levels about the culture and feel free to reference this review. If the interviewer is defensive or uneasy walk away from the position. Also note during interviews that you can state you're no longer interested and end abruptly - don't accept petulance or lowered priority because you don't feel the interview is the two way process it is meant to be. No two interviews at SG are the same, there is zero standardization in the company including this seemingly simple process - internally it is a biblical struggle.
