I worked at Scripps College full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I loved most of the people I worked with, very cordial yet mostly respectful atmosphere. Benefits such as health care, dental, vision, retirement plans were superb. There was some opportunity for professional development as well as tuition reimbursement, great educational plan for dependents.

    Cons

Office politics are a serious issue and sometimes interferes with professional dealings. Hiring is usually based on graduating from Scripps or one of the Claremont Colleges and will almost guarantee you a position (even with no experience). Favoritism is also an issue, maintaining the status quo is upheld here when there are certain things that really do need to change for a better educational institution. The ability for promotions is limited.

    Advice to Management

There should be more upper management involvement to quell office politics and favoritism as much as possible. Create far more opportunities for professional development and stick by the policy. Create an advancement program, recognizing the skills and contribution of leading employees to train them for upper management/director positions.
