I worked at Sears part-time (less than a year)

    Pros

The only pros would be to gain more work experience (customer service, communication, general retail stuff) and to meet and work with some great people (who aren't managers).

    Cons

Sears does not care about its employees. It offers almost no benefits, and while the average pay is near the middle rung in the retail market they offer very little opportunities for advancement or raises. The first day that you come in, they literally throw you out onto the floor with absolutely no training or orientation. You're reliant on fellow employees to show you the ropes. While there are some very poor computer based modules, they don't require that you do them (corporate probably wants you to, but the actual location you work at couldn't care less). Its no secret that Sears has been on the decline, and it shows with the poor effort on its part to keep its stores fully staffed. They try to get by with the minimal amount of staff so in result, the staff that's already on-board is overwhelmed and that in turn creates a high turn-over rate. There is very low morale. As for the management staff, in my case, it was probably the worst management staff I've ever worked for. They played favorites, were very patronizing, and tried to get by with doing the least amount of work possible. Its a very 'us-against-them' environment with the bottom level employees and management.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Treat your employees like they're human, stop obsessing over credit apps and metrics so much, keep your stores staffed, train your employees, and offer pay raises.

    Doesn't Recommend
    Negative Outlook
    No opinion of CEO
