Former Employee - Sales Associate in Sunnyvale, CA

I worked at See's Candies part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

--10% employee discount for active workers

    --small cleaning tasks

--consume candies during your break (no candies can bring home for free)

--Constantly working non-stop, standing long hours (like working out in a gym!)

--$0.50 cents more per hour than similar retail job

    Cons

--Politic environment; extreme micro- manage from top and low crews

--Overwhelming work atmosphere with rude seasonal workers that like to push newbies work on their tasks.

--Becoming permanent part time employee is slim unless you've invested 4-5 years working as seasonal in the same location.

--Seasonal workers and stocking clerk are very bossy (command lots of tasks) on new employees with rude attitude.

--Very cold warehouse and store (similar to fridge temperature) while females workers are required to wear panty hose and short sleeve to work.

--Very strict company policy on break. No bathroom break other than your assigned break! No coffee break! (See's does not provide any fountain drink in the break room)

-- If you late or early to sign on or off to the system, you will get written up as a warning that you are not being on-time.

--You may not be called back for another seasonal term if your performance reports are written by your manager with negative comments or if someone in the management team dislike you...

--No chocolate candies can be taken home and all have to be eaten during your shift (even though they throw pounds of chocolate away every week)

--Inadequate training hours on new workers on cash register and packing chocolate for customers.

--Nosy and gossip seasonal workers and stocking clerk who like to treat newbies with harsh attitude.

***5 seasonal workers quit after working there for 2-3 weeks....due to unfair atmosphere and difficult personnel***

    --Low discount rate to employees.

--Inflexible work schedule; inconsistent work hours (one week you will only get 12 hours of work, some hours go to other workers or management)

--Panty hose and dress are required as part of See's dress code.

--Not for long-term career, very small chance to even get a permanent full/part- time

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Re-train management qualities

Provide professional training with more hours to sales associate

Flexible dress code. Panty hose should be provided.

Allow sales wear different style and color of shoes and jean/pant to work.

Provide work glove when handling candies to eliminate issues.

    Doesn't Recommend
    Neutral Outlook
    No opinion of CEO
