Used to be a great place. Not anymore.

    Current Employee - Anonymous Employee

I have been working at Selfhelp Community Services, Inc.

    Pros

Good benefits and, if it were stuck to, a good mission. There's a long history of serving the vulnerable elderly. Hoping that they get back to serving them because they used to do good work.

    Cons

They have become so focused on making profits that the true focus, helping clients, has been lost. For the first time I am questioning why I went into this field of work because I don't get to use my skills. I'm a vehicle for creating income (none of which employees receive). If your program is not a moneymaker for them, they turn their back on you or stab you in your back. It's become a place with a great deal of sneaking around, lying and questionable ethics. Used to be so proud to work here. Not so much anymore.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You should be supporting your employees, not punishing them. Stop going through the motions of pretending you care just because you have to show outsiders how great you are. You will get much more out of your employees if you treat them with genuine kindness and respect rather than leading with fear tactics. Wake up, there are a lot of unhappy employees here looking for the first opportunity to leave.
