I worked at Sherwin-Williams full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Structured training and paths for career development. If you are willing to come in and work hard from day 1, you will be recognized for those efforts and the management team is in place to help promote you as opportunities come available. In larger districts there seems to be a lot of growth as employees move from store to store and into a sales rep position. Additionally the company produces a product you feel proud to stand behind. When customers are disappointed they want you to do what you can at the store level to make things right even if it's at their own expense.

    Cons

In store jobs are very physically demanding. Despite the company's focus on women's initiatives there were days when I would need to shake over 300 gallons of paint by myself in less than an hour. Given that I only weigh 130 lbs and a 5-gal bucket of paint can easily weigh 50-80 lbs this was exhausting and probably has caused long-term back problems. The stores are also allotted staffing budgets that never seem to be enough. Managers were once allowed to go over as long as they were willing to receive the penalty with their bonus structure, but district managers were starting to cut that out.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Work with your managers to understand what their staffing needs are - both with budgeted hours and finding the right people to run the stores. Very difficult to find the right people to put in place as part-timers and key-holders when you are running around in a frenzy most of the time trying to keep up with customers and daily operations.
