    I worked at Shopping.com

    Pros

Shopping.com offered a whole kitchen of free snacks, drinks, and even small meals. As funny as it sounds, this is actually a huge benefit! It makes it easier to communicate and work through lunch, without leaving the office. Also, the technical staff is filled with some very bright people, and working with bright people is always bonus.

    Cons

Shopping.com severely underpaid people in it's IT Operations department. They were purchased by Ebay, and they have been in the process of bringing new hires in line with Ebay's salary range, which is a good thing. However, the people that were with the company before the acquisition are largely getting screwed. This was the main reason why I left. I was being underpaid by 10s of thousands of dollars.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I would tell senior management that the engineers working on the operations side are every bit as important as the engineers working on the engineering side, and should be similarly compensated. The biggest problem for Senior Management, in my opinion, is that they didn't understand what operations does, and as a result, they figured it couldn't be all that difficult. It wasn't programming after all, right? As a result, operations was the unwanted stepchild. We were ignored and underpaid.
