Current Employee - Store Manager in Vancouver, BC (Canada)

I have been working at Showcase As seen on tv and more full-time for more than a year

Very relaxed work environment, no dress code, no formal service steps, light workload.

Very low pay and NO Stat holidays for Managers. They are one of the only companies in BC that actually take advantage of the loophole in Employment Standards to opt managers out of Stat days or pay. Stores work on absolute minimal staffing hours, be prepared to work alone majority of time. You are not told at interview that you have to sell warranties nor how high the returns and exchanges are - it's a revolving door of product and there is no cash/credit refunds so customers get pretty pissed and you take a lot of abuse. Stores are in many times old and dirty not a pleasant work environment and hard to be proud of where you work. Kind of embarassing actually.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't kid yourself - you are not on par with management salaries in BC and you shouldn't opt employees in BC out of stat days or pay. Managers are the front line and make the money that provides you with a good living; offer us the same. You own a lot of stores and can't use the excuse times are tight. If you want top quality managers then pay them what they are worth.
