Good if you want to work for government in future.

Former Employee - Administrative Officer in Singapore (Singapore)
Former Employee - Administrative Officer in Singapore (Singapore)

I worked at Singapore Airlines full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

    Free/subsidized travel

Clear processes and procedures (it's like working for government)

Big name to put on resume

    Cons

Slow career progression that will eventually make you go backwards - you move departments every 2-3 years so you never get enough expertise in one area. When you try to move out of the airline, you realize your hotchpotch of experience is useless in the market.

Poor salary. They think the free travel is such a big perk they don't have to pay people. Only cabin crew and pilots get paid decently. Gen staff and AOs get peanuts.

A lot of "dead wood" - middle management that have been slacking and doing nothing much but hanging around for years.

Scholars - the good ones leave once their bond is up. Left with bunch of incompetent ones who can't find a job elsewhere and are just here continuing to get promoted because they are scholars.

Kissing ass is encouraged - if you kiss the right ass, you will definitely progress even if you're incompetent. If CEO likes you, you are fast tracked despite the fact that you can't even do the basics - no one dares to tell CEO that this person is not good.

Paperwork, paperwork. Everything comes with a management paper that must be written and redrafted 10 times before it goes to the management committee. After which even if it is approved, will take another 3 years to implement.

Current batch of SVPs are not leaders, but followers. Even the CEO is uninspiring. But go against them and you will be blacklisted for life. So everyone agrees, kisses ass and nothing improves.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get rid of AESU and start looking at more progressive schemes for graduates. You need to be open to take in more diverse views and feedback, and be humble enough to accept that you CAN be wrong!

    Doesn't Recommend
    Negative Outlook
    Disapproves of CEO
