I have been working at Smarty Had a Party full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

I've had several jobs and the ones which stick out particularly well in my memory are the ones which were pleasurable experiences. This company will definitely be one of those positive chapters in the story of my life.

What makes Smarty so great to me? The Smarties! That is how we refer to ourselves. As Smarties. That is the really huge success they have here. They hire real, intelligent and kind individuals, everyone here is great. They are all so pleasant, helpful and friendly with each other and our customers. It is crazy, but even if you are paid the least (and I was when I started in the warehouse) you still want to come and work here, because the people around you are so great. They just grow on you. The warehouse got a raise since I left it for the office and everyone seems much happier in that regard. They even started an employee review process as the result of an out of house survey conducted here. They have made changes and things are definitely improving all the time.

I feel like I belong to a team or rather a family here and that is how the culture is structured as well. The main values here are motivation, "awesomeness", growth, integrity, candor and loyalty. They are great values and are the cornerstone of the company. If you believe in them, take them to heart and live them, you will do GREAT at Smarty. If you don't, then maybe Smarty isn't the best fit for you. I feel like this company cares as much about my well-being as I do about its, which is quite a lot. We look out for Smarty and Smarty looks out for us.

They have a nice benefits program, a nice healthcare plan, and are always willing to listen to concerns. The company also likes to get together with employees for picnics, or to watch comedians or for lunch. There is quite often little extra snacks or food in the break-room, which is nice to munch on. We also get two 15 minute paid breaks per day, which is also quite nice. Sure lunch is 30 minutes, but you can re-work your schedule to have an hour if that is what you want or need. They are quire flexible on time, and allow you to schedule your week to your preference (within some bounds). You also can earn up to 15 paid days off a year (including the automatic birthday day-off). They are very understanding when it comes to illness and loss, as long as you are open and honest with them.

The other great thing about Smarty is the openness and opportunity to move within the company. Like I said, I started in the warehouse as a shipper. I then transitioned into a role where I was helping add products to our website and creating aggregate pages and doing research. They now have me transitioning into a new role yet again, and I have no idea what may be next. Regardless, I know it will be a great opportunity to learn, grow and share my knowledge. Smarty is a great place to work.

Oh, I almost forgot. One other great thing are these huge boards, laid out to represent the core values of the company. Every time you notice someone going above and beyond the call of a Smarty, you get to write a little note on a sticky and "post it" for all the other Smarties to see. It is quite nice to receive a sticky. And feels great posting them.

    Cons

The fridge in the break-room can get a little crowded at times and some individuals forget to do their kitchen duty, so some other Smarty gets to take care of it. Sometimes communication can get bogged down going from department to department, but things still get resolved timely.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Follow through with the changes you have implemented. I know it is easy to get caught up in the everyday events, but you started a great thing with the employee review process and we appreciate it. The company culture is a good one, continue to lead by example.
