I have been working at Smiths Detection full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

The hardware products the company makes are fantastic. The freedom employees have to leave early if needed for a doctors appointment is great. There recently has been more opportunity to advance- which is great. I have worked with some good people.

    Cons

Management does not have an accurate view of peoples abilities. They do not look at the big picture. People are not treated well in general. The company is notorious for playing games like- we have this product when we really don't. They don't have a real customer centered focus. Once the initial money is made- it feels like the customer does not exist anymore. Raises are really small. Even on years where the numbers said we were in bonus territory- we did not get a bonus. Management almost always gets a bonus- regardless of how the company does. Management rarely tells the truth or at least the whole story. A lot of employing will pass of work that they are supposed to do to someone else- and this seems to be rewarded.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop lying to employees. Treat them how you want to be treated. Follow through on your word- to customers and employees. Follow through with customers- don't stop caring about them when you get paid.
