6.5 years, first 5 were good until restructuring, last year was a nightmare.

none unless you like: low pay, no raises for a decade, poor benefits, chance of being restructured in a short period of time, clueless mgmt.

no raises for the last 4 years, benefits taken away one by one. After the crisis hit, they decided to close down most sites and centralize everything in MD. It was so bad that at least 2 of the sites they closed had formed new companies that were hired as contractors right back. Top mgmt is clueless and the only way to show a profit was by reducing employee numbers, sacrificing experience and long term growth for the short term bean counting tricks. I was one of the employees retained after my office closed, only to have my projects taken away when I dared disagree with the typical salesman outlook backed by zero facts. My main project went to someone with 0 experience...The site head had the nerve to tell me that he wants his PMs to be managing from the office and restrain from going in the field....sounds great if the resources given were more than 0. as others have said: too many chiefs, not enough Indians, or in the case of Smiths, too many paper pushers with a cubicle's worth of comfort zone who's motto should be: if we don't work we don't make mistakes. If we don't make mistakes we should be promoted.
I could write a volume on corporate dysfunction based on my experience there.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Every mid and upper level manager with more than 5 years in such position at SD, you need to fire yourselves! You have been leeching the life out of this once great company. You are responsible for the shoddy products, the complete lack of direction and vision, the misery you have heaped upon your employees. Here is a real piece of advice: If you want performance, then you have to pay for it. you cannot expect top talent to stick around for low pay and no incentives.
