I worked at SoftLayer full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Friendly co-workers lots of work truly an IaaS provider (Infrastructure as a Service) Multiple Data Centers across the globe Personal Choice Holiday's

    Cons

Over worked Under Paid little to no training limited career advancement Internal Management fighting no notice to roll-out of new products Marketing and Sales changes names of products without notice to support staff

    Advice to Management

Hire more people to cover the amount of work that is present. You will need to also start paying Industry Standards for the positions you have or you will continue to lose staff to better paying companies. Management needs to get onto the same page. IaaS (Infrastructure as a Business) means that the customer is responsible for trouble shooting the basic issues. It does not mean that your Support Departments will troubleshoot every issue for a customer. They are not paying for that type of support and as such they should not be promised to get that type of support. You also need to increase the pay of those that are "Legacy" Employees to match industry standard as well as what you are paying new hires. Just because an employee went from being a Server Build Technician to a CST, to an ACS, those are not "Lateral Moves", those are moves that added responsibilities and pressures that were not present with the previous position and as such the pay should be bumped to reflect the added responsibilities and duties. Management or Shift Leads should be making more than the people they are managing they have proven through their ability to manage people as well as understand technical issues that they deserve a higher pay and these moves are again not "Lateral Moves".
