Former Employee - Licensed Practical Nurse  in  Dothan, AL
Former Employee - Licensed Practical Nurse in Dothan, AL

I worked at Southeast Alabama Medical Center full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

You will get some invaluable experience working here. It is under guidance of the Joint Commission on the Accreditations of Healthcare, of which this facility does adhere. Also good experience as far as how things should be done. LPN's work along side of RN's and are treated with equal respect from administration, RN's and physicians.

    Cons

Pay is lower than other jobs in the area. Evaluation packet to get a raise was time consuming lengthy and redundant. Raises sometimes go on hiatus. As a med-surg nurse you will frequently have a high nurse to patient ratio sometimes as high as 7:1. PCA/CNA are not well staffed on floors sometimes as low as 4 to a 42 bed floor. Staff turn over rate is high.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Staff your floors adequately to ensure your patients proper care and your employees an ability to do their job as nurses and greatly reduce stress. And for God's sake pay them...you do make enough money as evidenced by how you spend it. It is a poor excuse for you to expect the level of work you do for the amount of pay you give and then have the audacity to criticize when your expectations are not met, shame.
