I have been working at Southern Illinois University full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

SIUC has solid policies and procedures in place to help new-comers adjust. There is always someone readily available to help and provide guidance. The teaching facilities are on par with some of the latest technology and offer multiple avenues of delivering lectures according to an instructor's preferred method. Seminars and Colloquiums are held regularly for both professional and personal growth/maintenance of skills and new topics in certain fields. There are opportunities for travel to attend conferences. It is a good place to get started in a career.

    Cons

Some courses border on being micro-managed, communication isn't always clear, and transitions from "old ways" to new procedures can be very tedious. The work-load can become quite a burden very quickly due to the required turn-over time for grading or project results. Certain policies are not always clear.
