I have been working at Sovereign Bancorp full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

It was a job when NOBODY was hiring. Generally speaking, nice associates.

    Cons

The systems are miserable, management was incapable of handling workload and would place blame on staff, absolving them of responsibility. HR and Sr. Management didn't care about this practice, and would look the other way. I heard one manager advise a teller to NEVER apologize to a customer, and another manager refer to staff "as a bunch of *&^%$# morons" when the manager made a mistake. Lastly, they promote higher ups when they fail to meet their goals.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take ownership of a situation, don't talk down to the people who work with you, and learn to put the customer before your lazy self. The company is poorly run from the top down. There are a few good managers, but overall they get drowned out by the others and Sr. Management. Instead of punishing people for not performing, find out why and fix the problem instead of making matters worse. When I got there there was a mantra of "Family First" that stopped and staff was made to feel like indentured servants.
