I have been working at Special Counsel as a contractor (Less than a year)

None yet. Soon SC will be the only legal staffing agency around and all document review attorneys will be working for minimum wage with no benefits. Bad business.

$22.00 hourly salary, non-negotiable, which is well-below market average. $22.00 hourly rate applies to any overtime hours worked as well. Parking not provided, which will likely cost around $30.00 per day and around $150.00 per work week. Even if parking is only $20.00 per week, that is $100.00 out of your already anorexic paycheck. Special Counsel boasts that employees/document review attorneys are eligible to join Special Counsel's healthcare plan after working for SC for 30 days. Mind you, this probably only includes actual days worked and not weekends, and other hidden caveats. However, there is no guarantee that A) the project SC staffs you on will last thirty days, or B) that Special Counsel will be able to provide you with continuous work to maintain eligibility for their Healthcare plan (in fact, requiring 30 days of continuous and then ongoing, continuous employment with SC incentivizes SC to NOT provide document reviewers with consistent work to reduce those eligible for their healthcare program). Further, SC is the largest document review placement agency/sweatshop for attorneys because they low-ball clients and document review attorneys (look at the average hourly salaries SC offers to doc review attorneys in other U.S. cities, they are much, much higher + SC's hourly rates for Chicago Doc Rev Attys is on average at least $6 - $13 lower than their local competitors). Attorneys should strike and refuse to work for SC for such ludicrously low and unfair rates, or else our hourly rates are just going to get lower and lower as SC lands more and more clients as it offers clients the cheapest option around. Don't accept document review positions offered by SC UNTIL THEY INCREASE THEIR HOURLY RATES!
