    I worked at Standard Beverage full-time (more than a year)


    The warehouse work is physical and fast-paced, so the time goes fast. If you like/need the night shift, the warehouse pretty much always has a position. People are allowed to learn multiple positions, so you can move around if you don't like where you start. Insurance is expensive, but there are three plans to choose from and they all cover preventing care 100%. Insurance starts within 30 days of hire. 4-day work week so long weekends. Bonuses for attendance and meeting team goals.


    Starting pay is lousy. No work-life balance. No guarantee of 40 hours per week so you never know what your pay is going to be. They let you use PTO to even out your checks, but then you're screwed if you need a sick day. Because the shift goes until they get done, it's really hard to have a second job--and your going to need one if you work here. You never know when you're going to get off work. If something breaks down it could be 8 a.m. or later. Usually its a problem being too short, tho. Plus, when there's a holiday, the days of the week you work change, so even a weekend extra job is hard to keep. In general, the people who work there are cool. Management acts nice and friendly, but like any business, they don't really care about laborers. You're a machine. They were giving cards on birthdays for while, which was kinda like saying hey your a person, but that stopped. Salesmen get treated like gods, no body else matters much. Managers say they want feedback, but don't pay any attention when they get it.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    If you're going to have lousy pay, you need to make raises merit-based and then deliver! With the way pay is now, you're always going to get stuck with the losers who can't get a job anywhere else--and that's the rep the company has -where to go if no one else will hire you. Guys in the warehouse don't care if they do good because they don't care about a job that pays low. When you get a good worker, make it worth it for them to stay. All the good ones burn out and leave cause they never get to quit worrying about money. And those gift cards random drawings will trick people for a while, make them think they're getting something, but pretty soon everyone figures out its just to make you think about that and not about pay. I mean, keep doing it, its better than nothing, but its not real helpful in the big picture, you know?

    Also, its really sexist that you put all girls on the bottle line and not in other areas. First, lots of women can do the other jobs. Second, it makes bottle line look like the sissy job. Third, it makes way too much drama on the bottle line. Throw a couple of guys in there to break up all the sniping. If you put just one guy over there, he's going to leave cause it's so all drama all the time.

    The night shift manager isn't very good a communicating. Maybe just over tired from working nights so long or something, but he talks and jokes around at the meeting, but if you try to talk to him one to one he's not easy to get. Plus maybe some managing lessons? Seems like he's unpredictable and also how the heck does he hire people? Some of the guys he gets--crazy.

    Finally, managers, VPs, etc. No one buys it that you're all buddy, buddy with the workers. You get points when you come out and throw cases when the stuff hits the fan, but only if you don't whimp out after an hour. You lose them when you bring groups of suits through the warehouse to look at people like their animals in the zoo. Theres a lot of us and them between warehouse and office. You might could work on that.
