I worked at Sunrise Senior Living full-time (Less than a year)
As an LPN Care Manager I got a lot of experience, because I ended up doing most of the work during my shifts, without the help of my staff. Despite the struggles of being understaffed and overwhelmed, I found my happiness through the residents I cared so much about. It's the simple "Thank You" and the smile you see on their faces that made this job fulfilling and bearable.
Management is very poor. The Executive Director comes and goes when she wants to and doesn't listen to the needs of her staff. The CMAs count narcotics alone by themselves and leave without telling you. Care managers/aides fall asleep and forget to do their rounds during overnight shifts. Hourly pay is very low. Without experience under your belt, expect to get paid at minimum $18 per hour. Expect on-the-job training at most for only 5 days.
Advice to Management
Lend time to learn about your staff's needs and pay attention to needs of your residents as well. There are many willing to work hard to meet a resident's needs but they are currently unemployed. Unfortunately, those that are hired - do not do their job and are irresponsible. In the end it's residents that suffer and they do not deserve that.
