    I worked at Sunrise Senior Living full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

    The residents, meeting the families and building relationships. Learning patience, compassion and the art of validation. Most of the team works well together, and usually have each others backs.

    Cons

    Management is self centered, only focused on themselves. Makes for a stressful environment for front line team members. Front line team is severely underpaid. $10/hr is not a fair wage for someone who has upwards of 10 human lives to tend to every day. It's disgraceful how poorly staff is treated, and though the care managers try to do their best, the residents suffer due to under staffing. Hard to advance as they play favorites. Unqualified people are getting the jobs you are ensured that you will have a chance for, but never get. They will gang up on a bully people to resign if they don't like them.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Actually work with your staff to improve, stop worrying about your next free lunch or the bonuses that WE earn you. You are all so caught up in the gossip with each other, and it shows. Whispering around corners and trying to pass of your bad decisions on to staff and firing them for your mistakes. Own your judgement calls, and get a sense of decency. Stop expecting your underpaid employees to give up their very small amount of time off, and let them enjoy it. It's difficult to enjoy a day off when you worry your job is at stake because you declined to cover they don't want to work themselves.The front line staff are the reason you even have a job. You do as little as possible to make your staff feel appreciated, but it rarely works. No bonuses, no real advancement based on merit, only favoritism. They are overworked and under paid.

    Upper management ( Area Director, VP etc.) are great. Always checking in on you and making you feel valued. Wish this was the norm in every community but the coordinator team puts on a show.
