    Approves of CEO

I have been working at TOMS full-time (More than 3 years)

Giving trips, workout room, free coffee, a so far so good new CEO (Jim).

It's no lie; TOMS does occasionally promote current employees from within... it just only happens to those who are lucky enough to be on whatever short list of people who are favored by their manager. I cannot emphasize enough just how important it is to "play the game" of favorites to even stand a chance of getting on such a list. part of the problem is that some leaders/managers don't have a clue what their direct reports do... so rather than evaluate true merit, they evaluate personalities. Similarly, on paper great annual reviews are used as a carrot and stick tactic to trick desperate employees to get them to work even harder than they already do. Yearly reviews are conducted... Even "mid-year" reviews are encouraged. However updates and check ins regarding performance should be a continuing conversation that happens monthly. Because then this shows that the company is willing to invest in their people. The carrot I mentioned earlier? That wouldn't be an issue if there were regular check ins. As a result, reviews are written and recorded, but no amount of follow through happens because the ideas become stale and too distant by time it's time to discuss again.

    Advice to Management

In addition to the politics, everyone here is frustrated by the lack of autonomy and opportunities for mastery. If (TOMS employees) were paid enough so they’re not thinking about money and then given more creative freedom at work, I think happiness and Glassdoor reviews would improve.
