I have been working at Tangoe full-time (More than 3 years)
Concepts around the solutions and products are sound. Working remote allowed for good work life balance. There are some really good people and first level managers. Unfortunately, most are too burned out or tired to actually try to make a difference. I spent over 2 years at the company and always over achieved quota.
Work harder than anywhere else in the industry to make your base salary. The comp plan is written like a ponzi scheme with no promises of timing or what you will actually get paid. Even when you have an agreed payout, senior management goes off the comp plan and sites the "Management has the right to chnage the comp plan at any time" line, even after deals are inked. HR actual told someone that they were lucky to get less than 1% commission on an annually paid multi-million dollar contract. The complan commission rate should have been over 19%. The few sales teams that are performing are not receiving full commissions within 12-months of contract executions. President's Club winning sales reps are leaving days before the trip because the culture and moral is so bad that they do not want to spend time on a free caribbean trip with management. There is an attitude from Senior Management and HR that people do not matter and the "a monkey could sell this stuff". Never mind that only 7-8 sales reps (out of 40+) made their number in 2014-- and only 3-4 of them are still at the company for the trip in Oct 2015... the rest left on their own leaving $100Ks of "promised" commissions behind. There is no longer trust that the company will ever pay. There was even a round of downsizing in August just to avoid paying out on commissions owed for the quarter. When faced with the opportunity to do the right thing and support the employees, Tangoe always finds a way to go the other way. Every day at Tangoe I was surprised at how far and low they could sink... There is no way I could recommend this company to a friend-- unless Tangoe made some really serious changes.
Advice to Management
Get ahold of the culture. The moral is as bad as I have seen in my 15+ year career. Take care of your people so your top performers would want to stay-- not because they are "hoping" you will pay what you agree. Actually care about your customers, so it will be easier to keep and renew as contracts expire. Clean out some dead weight at all levels. Stop trying to do things the old way and become a leader once again.
