Former Employee - Warehouse in Newton, NC

I worked at Target full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Seemed to care about conditions and situations, pay was a little above average and most of the people that you work with are nice. Facilities are pretty clean and equipment is mostly usable. It's possibly to get reimbursement for college if your studying something that helps you in your current or future roles at target. Some of the insurance was good. Very secure, no incidents, one time there was an altercation outside and they warned us and allowed us to leave if we felt unsafe. I never once felt unsafe. They have a big safety culture.

    Cons

Constantly raising production because somewhere in another dc, some other guy was able to reach a higher production rate which is kinda unfair because sometimes there just isn't enough freight to hit your numbers. Equipment was fairly often put back on the floor because the mechanic couldn't find anything wrong with it even though you left the paper on it which told them what was wrong, and this also led to difficulty hitting your numbers. Sometimes it could be hard to get time off, they are very big on reliability there, though this is understandable. You absolutely have to have a 4 year degree to get any time of management job save for very few exceptions, even if you have 20 years of experience. Some of the "rotations" we were supposed to have never really worked well and usually resulted in somebody getting stuck with the not so fun job for the night because nobody else was trained. The actually wanted to empty our pockets of pencils to save money which seemed a bit over the top.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Actually care about us if your going to ask us questions about what we are concerned with. If you're just going to shoot down all my ideas then stop inviting me to those silly meetings. Also, give people downtime when they do extra stuff like cleaning and quality work or when you make us sit in on 1-hour meetings for various announcements and agendas.
