I have been working at Target part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

This is my first job, so I didn't expect it to be a walk in the park. But in general, guests are really nice, coworkers are really friendly and helpful and everyone who works at Target gives off a good vibe, and we have to work as a team, or we don't work at all. I've gotten great experience from this job as a cashier and with customer service. I've met some great people, made wonderful friends, and learned a lot about others through this job, and to be patient and polite with guests.

    Cons

Some of the cons are needing a walkie-talkie, a PDA, and box cutter. Often, the walkie-talkies are all gone (we have to use other team members walkies), or PDAs just won't scan an item, making it difficult to find specific items for customers, especially if said item is in the backroom. A PDA that doesn't work essentially means that you have to rely on memory, which is not a good way to operate.
As well, if you don't have a walkie, you cannot tell the leader on duty when your break or lunch is, and may have to find them yourself to talk to them in person. You also need the LOD (especially if you're temporary) to open cases and ask permission for certain things.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Although you rely on temporary/seasonal workers, please consider their time they request to get off work. I specifically have requested the latest I work on weekdays is 9:30, yet I have been scheduled to 10:15. This simply doesn't work because of public transportation, and just because someone can take the bus at 10:15 and get home okay, that does not mean another person can do the same thing. 45 minutes doesn't seem like much, but it's a lot when it comes to public transportation. Also, train temps better. Rushing through everything (however fast it may be) is not necessarily more efficient, and better than learning while on the job to make them look bad. (Sorry, it's true).
I've been told not to have my phone out on the floor. Before that point, I was never told that I could not have my phone on the floor. Or leaving an abandoned/pull cart is bad.
And teaching cashiers while theyre working with real customers (having someone walk them through it) is easier than just learning on the job, again.
