I worked at Teach First full-time

    Pros

Good life experience, nice community of people, it can be rewarding to work with young people, easy to find work when you finish the programme, summer holidays, can work from home in the evenings and weekends, cheap way to gain a PGCE

    Cons

No choice of location, long hours, low pay, high pressure, crazy culture amongst some teachers that it is better to generate your own resources than use professionally developed ones, you have to be aware that you are doing the equivalent of a high pressure job and studying for a degree in your spare time, behaviour management is hard and exhausting.

    Advice to Management

Ensure that trainees have more experience in the classroom before putting them in charge of students' education. Reduce the stigma in leaving- teaching is not for everyone and it is doing no one any good to have teachers who feel obliged to stay when they are stressed, suffering from depression and desperately unhappy.
