Former Employee - Summer 2014 Software Engineering in Nevada City, CA

I worked at Telestream full-time (less than an year)

Telestream's culture is one based on openness, hard work, kindness, and respect. From my first day there, it was evident that Telestream cared for its employees and I was made to feel like part of the team. Although I was just there for the summer as a software engineering intern, I witnessed the behaviors of existing employees and can say that the workplace is very flexible. I had the pleasure of working on Telestream's Vantage product, but there are various teams working on other products simultaneously. The software development team I was on was comprised of very hard working and intelligent people. There are some extremely intelligent and gifted individuals working there, but I never witnessed intellectual arrogance or holier-than-though attitudes. All in all, it was a great experience. If a software engineering position is open upon my graduation, I will definitely consider applying for it.

Because of the specialized nature of the software (video encoding, decoding, and processing), it takes a great deal of investment to get a programmer up to speed and to have that programmer become truly productive and beneficial. I imagine that if you accepted a position at Telestream, there would be little chance of stepping out of that job's general domain. This is understandable, but although I may be completely wrong, I think it would be prudent to know that a particular job type is what you truly wanted, because chances are, you would be in that role for the duration (i.e. QA vs. Engineering). I did not ask if this is the case or not, but based on my observations and having a peek at the unique complexities associated with the various positions, I do not see how it could effectively be otherwise.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Maintain your current attitude of openness, kindness, and respect. Continue valuing your employees and investing in them.
