    Pros

    - Growing company well positioned in oil and gas industry - Strong job stability -- if you can pass a drug test and are able to show up every day and do marginally acceptable work you will have a job at Tesoro for as long as you want - Highly competitive compensation and benefits - Very nice corporate headquarters with good amenities

    Cons

    - Career advancement/promotions at Tesoro are heavily influenced by workplace politics - Some managers more concerned with getting themselves promoted rather than elevating their employees and tend to withhold high-level/high-visibility assignments from their employees in order to provide themselves with more opportunities to interact with senior leadership - If you enter this company in a high-level leadership position, you will find that you are given more than adequate resources to accomplish your professional goals; however if you enter Tesoro as an entry-level employee or experienced, non-manager, professional you will undoubtedly find yourself frustrated at the lack of upward mobility opportunities and the level of workplace politics that occurs on a daily basis

    Advice to Management

    Standardize year-end employee evaluation criteria; hold managers accountable for not developing and/or promoting their employees. If a manager is promoted twice in a 12 month time span but none of his/her direct reports are moving up in the company or are leaving due to lack of advancement opportunities then you have a serious employee development problem.
