Current Employee - Information Systems Programmer in Waco, TX
Current Employee - Information Systems Programmer in Waco, TX

I have been working at Texas Farm Bureau Insurance full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Benefits - on-site clinic, fitness center, endless unhealthy drinks for free, several health insurance options and investment options.

Experience - you will get to work with some of the latest and greatest software package and programming languages.

Job security - you can work here as long as you would like. (see cons as well)

People - there are some great people here and it won't take you long to pick them out.

    Cons

Excessive Goals - be prepared to become certified in anything that will lower the cost of an audit.

Micromanagement - you will be required to record every minute of every day into at least two forms of spreadsheet and/or project plan.

Job security - employees with terrible work ethic, contempt for their job, and lack of skills are prevalent.

Direction/Planning - projects are started, worked, and have their priority set hap-hazardously. Planning is usually done as an afterthought. Projects can become high priority on a Thursday afternoon and be required by Monday.

Training - this will depend on which "team" you are on. Some teams receive endless training, while others will receive very little to none.

Workload - not evenly distributed. 10% of the employees do 90% of the work.

Individuality - you will have none. All work spaces must be identical. All employees will use company issued and approved cups. Orwellian mindset is prevalent.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Cut the dead weight.
Have lower level managers/supervisors be accountable.
Allow some personality back into the workplace.

    Recommends
    Neutral Outlook
