Current Employee - Second Lieutenant in Houston, TX

I have been working at Texas National Guard part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Great life experiences, unique leadership learning, small skills easily applicable to civilian scenarios, possible to receive trade specific training for use in the civilian world

    Cons

Work-life balance, inconvenient scheduling conflicts, poor communication to lower levels, very small pay, no travel compensation usually, high demand for personal task completion in addition to civilian obligations

    Recommends
    Neutral Outlook
