I worked at The Art Institutes (HQ) full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Great location, fun staff and certain students are truly inspirational. I helped students who have gone on to tremendous careers in motion graphics, animation, fashion, etc. It's really, really cool to see student names in the credits of Thor and Iron Man, or to put on some Adidas sportswear and wonder if I knew the person who designed it

No one ever works more than 40 hours and schedules are at least somewhat flexible

    Cons

Guilt. Typical for-profit college where at some point the need for $ conquers the need to be honest with students. Teachers don't fail students they should be failing, and the school basically treats students as a business. I understand that's necessary to a certain extent but students are accumulating $60k + debt when they could have cut their losses way earlier. It's tough to be a part of that

Beyond guilt, I didn't work with many people who were actually trying to accomplish anything substantial. Fresh new ideas were usually met with "well, you can try that if you want." No support ever, though I suppose that's better than "you're not allowed to try anything at all."

In short, the overly corporate environment takes a lot of the life out of this place

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Can't imagine this is anything they don't know: make it less corporate and more of a place people are proud of. Of course, to reach that point they'd have to convince their boss, and their boss' boss, and...

Absolutely make sure people know about the success stories, too. There are some truly gifted people at this school

    Doesn't Recommend
    Negative Outlook
    No opinion of CEO
