4 day work weeks are a wonderful benefit! Depending on your supervisor, they can be quite flexible with your schedule. They try to be very safety conscious. The pay is pretty good for someone with no experience
It can get very hot and uncomfortable in summer, even at night. Working 2nd shift prevents life outside work from developing, which can be a real problem if you are single and are relocating from another part of the country. There are company activities (softball, etc., but those are only available to 1st shift workers). There is no engineering support during 2nd shift, so all decisions must be put on hold until the day crew comes in.
Advice to Management
Find a way to plug in your 2nd shifters to expand their off the clock lives, and provide them some engineering support at night
