I worked at The Body Shop part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Certain products (such as the body butters) are absolutely wonderful and actually do what they promise. The company values are fantastic and they participate in community fair trade all around the world. While working here, I was given the chance to try new products before they launch. Each product is accompanied by a handbook of regarding how and where the product was made. This is quite informative and useful!
I enjoyed working with most of the other employees; we became like a little family with each person looking out for one another.

    Cons

Your experience here will greatly depend on what sort of store manager you have. In my time here, I experienced working with three different store managers. One was absolutely wonderful, one was terrible and the last one was.. lukewarm. She was not in tune with the needs of the staff; did not honor request off for days, constantly micromanaged, left for long breaks while she was still clocked in, discussed her personal life with employees, hired her friends and discussed personal matters' of employees with other employees.
Each individual has daily goals based and if can often become a rat race to achieve these goals.
The DM only cares about numbers and how well the store is doing and considers the employees to be machines, who are easily replaceable.
The promotions can change in an instant without prior notice and we were constantly competing with the promotions online in addition to providing different coupons. The customers are completely spoilt and not willing to buy a product unless it is on sale. This shows how little value they have for the company and the products.
When new products are launched, most companies give their employees the products for free so that they can try them - the body shop does not do that and in fact, the store manager at this location would FORCE the employees to buy the products.
We were always expected to do free make over despite having been given absolutely no training. We were expected to watch a free videos and become make up artists overnight. I don't think that is a realistic expectation!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take the time to make sure that employees at all levels are satisfied instead of visiting the store once a month and just having a one-to-one with the store manager. Despite what you think, the associates and assistants are the ones do all the grunt work and know the client base.

    Doesn't Recommend
    Negative Outlook
    No opinion of CEO
