I worked at The Body Shop (Less than a year)RecommendsNegative OutlookRecommendsNegative Outlook
After your trial period ends you get 5 pieces of makeup (women) or skincare (men) to take home. While there are no real bonus opportunities (except for store managers) there are often sales contests that can result in getting to take home a free product. Additionally, when a new product or line launches you are often given a product (or one form the line) to take home, though over the past few years these opportunities seem to be less and less frequent. With the right staff and coworkers this can be a very fun job. Also, in my time at the store (2+ years) I saw several holiday associates and general associates promoted to assistant managers. However, once you are promoted to part time assistant manager there are very few opportunities to move up.
The company does not seem to be doing particularly well. There is a holiday sales contest every year but it is incredibly hard to qualify and many stores will not have qualifying sales. Women are also required to wear five visible pieces of makeup typically lip, cheek and multiple eye colors. If you are not wearing the five pieces or if your manager does not thing your makeup is heavy enough you will be asked to put more on. There are also frequent "spa parties" which often means you have to stay an hour or more over after close or come in early on a Sunday. Additionally, a decline in the quality of promotions and sales often leaves regular costumes frustrated. Lastly, "floor sets" are only done after store close. Stores are not given enough extra hours for these and they often end up going late or falling on the opener to complete.
