I worked at The CENTECH GROUP full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Small business where it is easy to stand out
Small team of core corporate staff makes it easy to work problems

    Cons

Small Business where CEO/Owner and President are at odd with each other.

No cohesive growth plans or comprehensive strategy for developing business in the federal contracting space

This is a one-hit-wonder company that made a great deal of money using the NETCENTS 1 contract vehicle and their status as one of the last two qualified small businesses on the vehicle. The success of their NC1 contract was built on the ability of partners to provide proposal and manpower resources and not on a fundamental ability held within the company.

Attempts to focus the company to replicate their NC1 success using the other GWAC/IDIQ contracts they prime have largely been a bust due to the major differences in the way each vehicle works. This coupled with the in fighting between the CEOs office and the president have left the team leaderless and floundering.

In the corporate office, the chance you'll be doing what you were hired to do from one month to the next is nearly zero, especially if you're in an operational management function. The CEO changes his mind on your role and functions as often as you change your shoes.

The corporate team has developed many tools to assist with job functions which duplicate many industry tools, but badly. Inevitably these tools are left to the wayside and people develop their own process and methods just to keep up. The CEO refuses to spend less money to buy more capability and would rather lose his shirt just to say his team did it on their own. When confronted with the limitations of the in-house developed systems, the CEO will double-down and create version 2.0 at even greater cost without defining what is wrong with the original system.

The company leadership has invested uncounted man-hours in development of a management system which is touted in corporate literature as ensuring their 100% satisfaction guarantee. The system is a colossal waste of money and only serves to create undue pressure on project/program managers as they attempt to maintain detailed records on performance for employees and projects. The value-add to the customer is not felt because most government contracts and program folks refuse to participate in the process. The pressure to continue to maintain this waste is the single biggest complaint offered by project/program managers in the company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire Business Developers and stick with them.
Expect a two-year cycle minimum in developing new business.
Hire people with the needed skills and let them handle their business without micromanaging.

    Doesn't Recommend
    Negative Outlook
    Disapproves of CEO
